It’s no secret that college life is stressful. The struggle of maintaining a healthy balance between work, school, friends and fitness/wellness throughout the week is real. And at the end of the week, it’s easy to be hard on yourself in the areas that you feel you are slacking in and losing control over, like getting a bad grade on your quiz or skipping the gym a few days too many. But instead of focusing on the negative, shift your focus on the positive and what you do have control of, aka your #GirlBossMoments.
I recently started listening to a podcast called Girl Boss Radio, hosted by Sophia Amoruso, founder of Nasty Gal (highly recommend). On her podcast each week, Amoruso interviews a successful and well-known woman who is a #GirlBoss in her career. She’s featured a range of guests from critically acclaimed journalist, Katie Couric, founder and CEO of Glossier, Emily Weiss and famous actress, Sarah Jessica Parker. Each of her guests seems to share the same challenge of finding balance when living a busy lifestyle- and us college girls can relate.
At the end of every interview, Amoruso asks her guests to share their #GirlBossMoment of the week. She defines a #GirlBossMoment as having a moment when you feel in total control of your life. It can be something as simple as killin’ it at a workout class or as monumental as landing a new job.
As college girls, we need to reflect on our week by focusing on the positives in terms of what #GirlBossMoments we’ve had. This will make us cherish and feel good about what we did get accomplished, not what we didn’t. We will give ourselves the recognition that we deserve and give us the much needed self-confidence and motivation to make more moments to get shit done like the #GirlBosses that we know we are are.
Remember: it is okay to fail and it’s okay not to cross off everything on your to-do list. It happens. We’re all human, and there are only 24 hours in a day. Yes, make them count and grind as hard as you can, but don’t beat yourself up when you fall short. When you start to feel those negative thoughts come in on what you didn’t get done, reflect and remind yourself on the #GirlBossMoments you made that day and throughout that week. You got this, girl.
