HC Collegiette’s Guide to the Best Pinterest Recipes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

Heard of Pinterest? Of course you have.

If you haven’t, you are about to become addicted to one of the fastest growing social media sites ever. Users “pin” recipes, outfits, hair ideas, quotes, and photographs that they love or want to learn more about. Once on their pin boards, users can visit the websites these “pins” came from to get the recipe, buy the outfit, or learn the craft.

If it sounds like a woman’s dream come true, you’re right. Millions of new hairstyles, desserts, shoes, blazers, dresses, and did I mention desserts at one’s fingertips.

I’m not saying they’re healthy, but here are some of the best, most delicious and college friendly recipes you’ll find on Pinterest

1. Pizza dip: Perfect for a girls night in, or a weekday snack. Serve with baguettes or bread and chow down

2. Rainbow cake: At first glance, this one looks tough. Making a cake rainbow colored? Save that for Martha Stewart. But wait, it’s easier than you think! Just divide the cake batter into different bowls, get some food coloring from Hy-Vee or Walmart, and you’ve got yourself a rainbow cake. This one will impress the friends and relatives; I suggest you try it.

3. Red Velvet Cookies: Who doesn’t like red velvet cake?  It might be even better in a cookie. Add in some chocolate chips, and you have yourself an easy, fun and festive dessert.

4. Ham and cheese (or other ideas!) crescent rolls: One of the easiest, yummiest meals you’ll make. Make ham and cheese roll-ups, use a hot dog and cheese to make pigs in a blanket, or add salami and cheese, or turkey. Dip them in honey mustard sauce, or add in some onions. You can also use pepperoni, pizza sauce, and mozzarella cheese to make pizza roll ups!

5. Beer cupcakes: Clearly there isn’t a shortage of beer here at the UI, so put it to good use and make some beer cupcakes. Your boyfriend WILL love these

6. Eggs in a basket: Some bread, eggs, oil and maybe some ham or bacon if you are feeling ambitious, and you have yourself a delicious and (fairly) healthy way to start the day

7. Parmesan knots: These are seriously delicious. Be careful, because once you start eating them, you’ll want them all. All you need is a tube of biscuit rolls, oil, garlic power, oregano, parsley, and parmesan cheese (Aldi has a lot of this for cheap) and you have yourself one tasty parmesan bread knot.

8. Ham and egg cups: A yummy, easy, breakfast for only 100 calories a cup? Count me in.

9. Crescent roll s’mores: Mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, and a tube of crescent rolls. Simple, fast, and easy. And not to mention so good.

10. Apple sandwich: Could these get any cuter? Probably the “healthiest” option in this article, and all you need is an apple, some peanut butter, chocolate chips, and granola. Perfect for a mid-day snack!

11. Nutella and Greek yogurt fruit dip: Two ingredients, 3 minutes, can it get any easier for us college students? Probably, but this dip is seriously delicious.

12. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Brownies If you are a lover of the peanut butter and chocolate combo (who isn’t?) then these brownies will most likely the be best dessert you will ever have. They are most delicious right out of the oven when the gooey inside is warm, chocolatey and melted. YUM.

Have any other pins that you’re dying to share? Tried any of these, or others? Let us know in the comments!

She has grown to love magazine writing and editing and if she somehow can't land her dream job (to be Carrie Bradshaw), she wouldn't mind settling for a job in the magazine industry. If nothing else, she hopes to attend law school somewhere in the Bay Area out West, her favorite place to be. Since the age of 15, Emily spent her summers in California, doing internships and falling in love with San Francisco. Some of her other interests include her 4-month-old longhaired wiener dog Henry, blogging, celebrity gossip, sushi, Private Practice, fro-yo, being a journalism nerd, and anything involving good conversation with good people. Although she's not exactly sure of her plans for the future, she knows journalism will somehow be the driving force in her career.
