With spring comes a major transition in both the weather and our closets. Since fashion is of utmost importance this time of the year as we slowly change over from leggings to shorts, boots to sandals, and sweaters to tanks we decided to dedicate this week’s UoIowa’s campus celeb to the great fashionista, Liz Hayes. This political science major sure knows how to keep up her style while being bombarded by the pressures of class, finals and work. Her casual, yet chic style is perfect for almost any occasion—not too over the top, but definitely not too dolled down.
Here we see Liz showing off a lovely springtime look! Nude flats perfectly compliment her bold, dark turquoise pants. Simply adding a mixed patterned paisley scarf to a plain white V-neck tee topped off her outfit effortlessly! Despite only sporting a Vivani watch and a marquise cut ring, her accessories were just enough to set a classic tone. Although it’s May and JT memes have been getting our hopes up for warm spring weather, she manages to even pull off a lightweight beige jacket to wrap it all up!
Let’s see what tips she has for those looking to step up their style game!
How would you describe your fashion style?
Classic with a twist of hipster chic. I like bright colors and neutrals, but I usually like to mix things up. I try to have at least one bold piece to stand out, like my pants today for instance.
Where are some of your favorite places to shop?
Whenever I get a chance to go into Chicago, I have to make a stop at Discovery Clothing! Cute stuff for super cheap! I’d also have to say that 80% of my closet consists of things I’ve gotten from Forever 21 or Target.Â
What’s the key to having the perfect wardrobe?
Having lots of classic pieces that you can mix with other things to make tons of different fun and exciting outfits!
Excited for any fashion trends for summer 2014?
Eyelet dresses, crop tops, gladiator sandals, 60s swimsuits! So excited!
What would you say is a necessary article of clothing for every girl to have?
Black skinny jeans—they go with everything! You can dress them up or down. Honestly, there are endless possibilities. And, not to mention, they’re flattering and cute!
Thrift shops or name brand stores?
Thrift shops definitely. You can find way better deals, way cuter things, and it’s original. I can’t lie though; I do like a good brand named store every now and then! Â
