You don’t have to go to school to be an expert at make up. It takes a creative mind, a skillful touch, and a long lasting love for the girly application. If you beauty lovers fall for the great autumn inspired day and night looks, I recommend calling up Buzz Salon. Ask for Latish Knight’s expertise to get the perfect look for you. The two make up looks being demonstrated are easy to follow and can be done in as little as 15 minutes. Perfect for right before class, or if you are in a hurry for going out on the weekends! All products used in demo were Smashbox products that can be ordered at Buzz.

Before.

Tips for before you get started:

  • Always start with a clean moisturized face that has recently been exfoliated.
  • Using oil free products in the long run will be best for your skin and the long time wear of your make up.
  • Make sure your brushes are clean. If not they can spread bacteria and cause breakouts, which is the last thing you want!

Step 1: Apply a Primer all over face, including neck (Used: Smashbox Photo Finish Light)- a primer helps even skin tone, fill in lines, minimize pores, and helps your make up stay on longer. You can use a basic primer to even put on your eyes for a day look, but if you are doing an intense evening look an eye primer is recommended to help your look last.

Step 2: With a flat foundation brush, apply a tinted moisturizer (Used: Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer with spf 15) Tip: with foundation and tinted moisturizer, make sure it is one shade lighter than your actual skin tone.

After steps 1 & 2, applying concealer

Step 3: Do spot touch ups with concealer (Used: Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer), using a concealer brush and a concealer that is 1 shade lighter than foundation. This is great for dark circles, discolored spots, and blemishes

Step 4: Finish face with Smashbox Halo Powder that is swept on in circular motions with a plush powder brush. This will set the make up and lightly hydrates your skin, while enriching it with Vitamin E and numerous antioxidants.

Quick tip: When putting on powder don’t forget your neck. You don’t want to end up with foundation lines!

Step 5: Apply Halo Perfecting Hydrating Bronzer in a C shape starting at your temples and going towards your jaw. If you are more of a pale skin tone use a blush, for example Blush Rush in the color of Paradise. Make sure you smile, so you highlight the apples of your cheeks, where a blush looks most natural.

Applying eye shadow

Step 6: With eyes during the day you want to stick more towards nudes and flesh tones, that are completely matte or with just a tinge of a shimmer. First start with the color (Used: Vanilla Eye Highlight) that you are using as your eye highlight. Use an eye highlighting brush and swipe the make up under the eyebrow, on brow bone, and to inner crevice of eye.

Step 7: Work in shade on lids (Used: Nude Eye Highlight), all the while you pay attention to your natural eye crease.

Step 8: Line top layer of lashes with a smudged shadow for liner (Used: Mink Brown Eye Highlight) just enough to add a since of depth, but not to heavy or over done for day.

Quick tip: If this eye look is too flat you can add a shimmery eye shadow starting at the outer side of the eye and working towards the middle to really catch the light.

Step 9: Touch up your brows with Brow Tech in Dark Brown and lightly fill in the correct angle. (See pictures below to see where brow should start, peak, and end.) Then use eyebrow brush to texture the brows to give a natural look.

Step 10: Add mascara to the top lashes (Used: Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black)

Filling in eyebrows

Step 11: Keep lips simple by using a high shine moisturizing lip gloss (Used: Reflection High Shine Lip Gloss)

Finished day look

Night Look:

Follow the day steps 1-7.

Adding cat eye

Step 8: Use a liquid liner pen (Used: Limitless Liquid Liner Pen in Dark Brown) and create a subtle cat eye. Start at the outside of the eye and work your way in. It can be easier if you pull at the corner of your eye to help you keep the lining as close as possible to the lash line. Only line the upper lashes for the cat eye.

Where the cat eye should end

Quick tip: Apply a powder over the liquid liner to get it to set quicker and last longer

Step 9: Apply multiple layers of mascara (Used: Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black)

Adding lip stain

Step 10: Use a lip stain to insure long lasting, all night lip shade. (Used: Limitless Lip Stain and Color Seal Balm in Cinnamon)

Applying Finishing Powder

Step 11: Finish face with Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder, which will help set the entire look, fill in lines, and absorb oil, and help the make up look gorgeous all night long.

Finished night look

Last quick tip: If you are doing shiny makeup, one should where a matte nail color or if your doing matte make up one should do shiny nails.

He joined The University of Iowa's Her Campus team as the writer of the "From a Guy's Perspective" articles in January 2011 and hasn't looked back since (except to make sure he doesn't write the same article twice). Peter's a major in both Journalism and Creative Writing and hopes to become a writer in some way, shape or form after he graduates. That or the President of the United States, he hasn't really focused too much to say anything decisive yet... or maybe he has, we're not quite sure. If he had to choose a night of guilty pleasures it would include the Beastie Boys, Monster Import: Light, Zebra Cakes, and a marathon of subpar movies that he thinks are amazing (Blade, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fast and the Furious, etc).
