Advice to underclassmen
Take a class in the GWSS department, or religion, or anything that isn’t what you’re used to, about people who aren’t like you. Branch out and learn about the people and cultures in the world around you. Learn acceptance, not just tolerance. Learn how you compare to other people on this earth, check your privilege and figure out what you can do to make the world a better place for everyone on it, not just yourself.
Something you think everyone should know before they get to college
How to cross the street. None of these idiots know how to cross the street.
Something you think would make the world a better place
If people cared as much about other people as they do themselves.
Favorite place in the world and why
Costa Rica. I went there on a trip with my junior high ecology club, and I saw people living in peace with each other and with the nature that surrounded them. They live by this “Pura Vida” mentality that is on signs and clothes and just everything all over the country, and everyone says it constantly, and it means “living peacefully” and being happy with the life you’ve been given. I think that’s such a great mentality that more people in more places should adopt. Also, they don’t have a military, which I think is rad because violence doesn’t do anything but create more problems.
