Whether you are out on a weekend night with friends or in the law library studying, you’re sure to be greeted with a smile and genuine conversation from Zach Theiler. He brings great energy wherever he goes and almost always has a grin on his face. Between studying and playing his Nintendo Wii, Zach took some time to sit down and tell me a little more about himself.
Name: Zach Theiler
Age: 19
Hometown: Metamora, IL. It’s a small town right outside of Peoria.
Major: Biochemistry and Chemistry with a pre-med focus.
What do you want to do in the medical world?
Probably interventional radiology. It’s a growing field with new technology. Also, then I will able to do surgery, which is something I’ve always wanted to do.
What are you involved in here at Iowa?
I’m a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity (FIJI). I also just joined the Chemistry fraternity, Alpha Chi Sigma, this semester. I participate in a little bit of inorganic Chemistry research. Other than that, I am in Dance Marathon and am looking at starting a nonprofit organization. Stay tuned.
Favorite place to eat downtown Iowa City: Micky’s.
Do you have any goals for 2nd semester?
Hmm that’s a tough one… definitely get a better GPA. I’d also like to meet more people outside of my fraternity, which I didn’t really do last semester.
What’s something nobody would guess about you?
I like chick flicks. They’re kind of my go-to. I would say “The Notebook” is definitely my favorite.
Do you have any other hobbies?
I just ordered a Nintendo Wii, which is pretty cool, so I’ve been playing a lot of Phantasy Star. It takes me back to my childhood. I’m always down to play some Wii, so hit me up whenever you want. I also like hosting friends, does that count as a hobby? I like having them come visit from out of town and showing them how great Iowa City is.
What is your favorite study spot?
I actually don’t hate studying. It’s something I’m just used to doing. I would say that the Law Library is my favorite spot. Nobody really knows about it, so it’s always pretty quiet. It’s also on the west side of campus, which is close to my dorm.
