Purse Essentials for the Career and Internship Fair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

With professional week in full swing, you may be thinking about attending the University of Iowa Job and Internship Fair next Wednesday, February 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the IMU. To many, events like this may cause some major anxiety. However, if you show up already prepared and equipped to rock your elevator speech, anxieties can be easily relieved. Bring a purse full of secret weapons to wow employers at the fair. Have these things on hand, so you’ll be fully prepared for anything that comes your way. Now, go rock the fair!

Pen and notepad

Bring along a pen and purse-sized notepad in case you need to take down notes or phone numbers.

Resume

Make sure you have your resume available, neatly in a folder to hand to potential employers.

Hair tie and bobby pins

If your hair has a mind of its own, you know that it doesn’t always like to cooperate (especially during moments that matter). Bring along emergency bobby pins and hair ties to ensure you can tame your tresses.

Mini Hair Spray

Mini bottles of hairspray are convenient to have in your purse for all occasions. To avoid distracting flyaways, have a bottle on hand in case hair pops out of place last minute.

Mini Hand Sanitizer

Shaking hands all afternoon can leave you feeling germy. Carry around a handy mini hand sanitizer to cleanse your hands between handshakes.

Altoids

Altoids are powerful and minty, yet discreet and small. Pop one in between booths to make sure your potential employer doesn’t smell what you ate for lunch.

Tinted lip balm

Talking to professionals for an extended period of time can make your lips dry. Keep tinted lip balm on hand to help moisturize your lips and add a subtle pop of color to your look.

Lastly, don’t forget to bring your positive attitude. You never know what great opportunities are out there for you. Good luck, collegiates!
