The Summit, Scummit or whatever you call it is one of the most famous bars near Iowa’s campus. I have discussions with my sisters about Summit at least once a month, and they graduated from here before I even got to campus. It’s unanimous; this is one of Iowa City’s staples.
The Summit is a bar and restaurant located on 10 S Clinton St. in Iowa City (there’s a bus stop right outside). While they’re very popular on the weekends for the nights in the Jungal, Summit is also open during the days for lunch and dinner.
Besides being known for their dollar calls on Tuesdays, Summit is the only restaurant that has “all-you-can-eat wings” for six dollars on Wednesdays, which is perfect for hockey and basketball game nights.
They also cook everything from scratch, which a lot of other Iowa City restaurants can’t say. Brad Temple, the manager recommends Nana’s Homemade Pasta, which is made from love and beef roast simmered in a homemade marinara sauce with penne pasta when it’s cold outside.
When you’re done filling up on the pasta, grab a drink and hit the “Jungal” upstairs, the famous dance floor or check out the photos on the wall. There’s a lot of history on those walls, and you didn’t even realize it.
Welcome to the Jungal, they have fun and games.
