Winter is coming, but what about the fun?

So here we are, it is the middle of December and we are in the middle of the blizzard that is the holidays. As the semester comes to an end, it is finally time to do something fun for yourself, but what exactly can you do? We are all college students, which means we have very little cash, especially after our gift giving spending sprees, but that doesn’t mean you have to suffer. Here are some awesome ideas for winter fun, on a budget, for all your holiday happiness needs!

1. Use the weather to your advantage

If you live in the Midwest or nearly anywhere in the U.S., it is bound to be cold, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay inside. Go to your local park and go ice skating on the lake. Before doing so, make sure it is safe and not on anyone’s personal property, but otherwise this could be a lot of free fun! Also, when the snow finally falls, be a kid again! Make snow angels, have snow ball fights and make igloos. If you live in warm areas, find things that work for you in this same way! If it is warm where you’re from, make time to decorate your home and take advantage of the nice weather, go on a walk with friends or family! Go caroling, its even more fun when you’re not chilly. But most important, make time to do something for your loved ones no matter what the weather is like, since it is a giving time of year.

2. If the outdoors isn’t your style, stay warm and cozy indoors

Build a fort like in your youth and cozy up to your fireplace if you have one. Take the time indoors to catch up on home videos and classic movies that you already own. Bring back the nostalgia that so closely relates to this time of year! Get going in the kitchen preparing the holiday meal or a favorite dish for fun, have hot chocolate or some warm tea, anything that says, indoors rules! Put on fuzy socks and snuggle with a loved one.

3. Get cooking

If you like to bake, this will definitely be a great time of the year to get into your passion. But add another element to the challenge and only use stuff you already have in your kitchen, almost like a chopped episode of your own. Get creative and bake some cookies, or warm up some hot chocolate!

4. Sing it up

Play music from your free apps like Spotify or Pandora and get your Christmas soundtrack on, or whatever holiday you celebrate! Play it on high and have a dance party at home! Playlists can be festive related or just what you have as favorites, during the holidays Michael Bubble is always a good option too!

5. Have a party

It doesn’t have to cost money to enjoy time with family and friends. Use the stuff you already have and make the place look festive, get out blankets and decorations from your storage and invite some friends. It is a chance to catch up and it’s a form of free entertainment to boot! Put on a sweater and play those free Spotify tunes and you got yourself a party!
