Last Saturday, early in the morning after going to the Her Campus 2nd birthday party, prep began.
The week before last I had gone down to Boston for Fashion Night Out with Kathleen and Ana. On the walk to my car the morning after, I was basically just in the right place at the right time. Kathleen and I got to meet the guy who ran the Let’s Rage Company. Throughout the summer I had seem them at every single show I went to, promoting and partying with the best of us. He runs ‘Throwed,’ a massive weekly dance party in Boston. He asked us to go to Day Glow in Hartford, an offer I wish I had taken him up on. After regretting not doing that, when he asked me to work Hempfest I immediately accepted.
It was a rough morning, after a crazy night out that Friday. Katie and I got up at 8 a.m. and helped him set up. I had heard a lot about Hempfest but was not really sure what it really was. Turns out it was an awesome freedom rally. There were people from all walks of life, even some babies. The people-watching was as fantastic as the shopping and food selection.
The point of the rally was for medical legalization of marijuana. There were a lot of passionate speakers and I talked to some patients who told me about the success they have had. This was Hempfest’s 22nd year and it gets bigger every year. It felt really cool to take part in a cause like that even if I just walked around and soaked it in.
Boston Commons took over a new vibe on Saturday, but was still very Boston. Everyone seemed really happy to be there, and it was a gorgeous day. I’m really glad I got to experience it. I got to try my hand at selling merchandise, getting acquainted with a new company and the way it worked as well as getting to see a different side of Boston. It just goes to show that any random day or walk to your car to blossom into a great experience like getting to experience Hempfest. I got great work experience from doing this and it is an experience that I can reflect on and use in my future.
