“My Boyfriend Wrote a Book About Me”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

It’s that time of year when the last thing you want to do is go out and purchase a new book. You just spent $400+ on books that you don’t even want to read but are forced to for class and it feels like their is no time for free reads. However, let me try to persuade you in to buying this book because frankly, you will love it. “My Boyfriend Wrote a Book About Me” by Hilary Winston is a must-read this fall. If your looking to get your mind off your busy schedule and hectic social life then set aside a little extra time before bed and you can finish reading this book in a week- and will be laughing for weeks after.

Whether you have endured long-term or short-term relationships in the past, you will definitely be able to relate to Hilary in this autobiographical story. She shares her hilarious real life stories, chapter by chapter, of run-ins with co-workers, bikini waxers, boyfriends/flings and the dreaded ex-boyfriend.

Her main focus throughout the book is on the actual story of her one long-term relationship going stale and her ex actually publishing a book about her without her knowing! If any girls out there have experienced public humiliation from an ex I’m sure Hilary’s story will beat yours.  In a way this book is a classy retaliation in response to her ex’s novel. However, instead of just bashing him she shares hilarious insights on dealing with the break up and laugh-out-loud stories of how she got back on her feet. One of my favorite aspects of the book is how she includes her cats as her best friends and shares some pretty great stories about them and how they helped her through her journey; it adds more humor and wit to the already amusing tales.

I’m sure some of you girls have read the Chelsea Lately series about her hilarious stories of her sexual endeavors throughout her career. I would compare “My Boyfriend Wrote a Book About Me” with Chelsea’s books. They both share that kind of sexual humor yet Winston’s book is just as funny with just a touch more insight on the relationship front.

If you’re looking for something to do in your down time or maybe you’re even going through relationship issues yourself, here is your cure. I promise you will at least LOL a few times even if you’re in a bad mood.

Check out the website http://hilarywinston.com/home/. This page shares excerpts from the book that will give you a good sneak peak at the amount of laughing you’ll be doing. This also includes an all you need readers guide for the book (almost as good as buying it). If you want to buy the book head over to Borders Bookstore in Bangor (which is going out of business so hurry!) for about $17.95. That’s the hard cover so I’m sure they have it for cheaper at other locations. If you don’t have any money left after buying your semesters worth of books, hit me up. I have a copy!
