Nobody likes getting sick and with flu season among us I thought it’d be a great idea to talk about certain ways we can all avoid catching the flu. Of course, we’re all aware of doing the little things that our moms always reminded us to do like “wash your hands regularly” and “sneeze and cough into your sleeve”. What I would like to focus on are three specific nutrients that we can consume to help to naturally boost our immune systems so that our body will be well prepared to fight off any flu viruses that may sneak our way.

Probiotics
Probiotics, or good bacteria, help to naturally fight off the bad bacteria in our gut that can be harmful to our digestive tract. Yogurt is an excellent source of probiotics and a quick and easy snack or breakfast!Â
Â
Antioxidants
Antioxidants help to boost immune function and allow cells to fight off the flu virus more efficiently. Green tea is rich in polyphenols, which are plant antioxidants, and thus work to protect our bodies from the flu. Other food sources rich in antioxidants are berries, nuts, spinach, and sweet potatoes.
Â
Vitamin C
Adding Vitamin C to your diet can help to fight viruses off before they even have a chance to attack your immune system. Vitamin C also has antioxidant properties. Red bell peppers, strawberries, and broccoli are all great sources of Vitamin C.
