Pura Vida at UMaine!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

Express your lifestyle with this new fun accessory: The Pura Vida Bracelet. Two friends who hit the beaches of Costa Rica for five weeks after graduating college began the Pura Vida business. They were encouraged by the different lifestyles and cultures they encountered during their travels to create jewelry that would express that.

Their main inspiration was from a man name Jorge, who began peddling bracelets on the street. The two friends asked Jorge to make them 400 bracelets to take back to the states. Selling the bracelets out of a boutique in California was a huge success, so they began a business relationship with Jorge and he went from selling 2-5 bracelets a day to selling 15,000 a week.

The simple homemade colorful bracelets are now sold in 700+ surf shops, boutiques, college bookstores, and a few large chain stores nationwide. Each bracelet is made with a unique combination of colors and some with beads to express personal style. They are 100% waterproof and break in perfectly. “Pura Vida” meaning “pure life” in Spanish sets the character for the popular accessory. Enjoying life slowly, celebrating good fortune, and not taking anything for granted is what each bracelet represents.

Pura Vida is a strong believer in giving back and is involved with numerous charities, including Break Cancer Awareness. Pura Vida is thinking pink  this month and are selling a 5-dollar Breast Cancer awareness bracelet that is all pink and super cute. The top strings are bright pink, the bottom braids are lights pink and the slipknot to fascine the bracelet is white. With every bracelet purchased, Pura Vida donates 1 dollar to Susan G. Komen foundation “For The Cure,” to fight Breast Cancer.
