This is the second installment of a brand new weekly posting right here on Her Campus UMaine! I’m a local Music Producer and DJ in the Orono area looking to share the sounds and culture of EDM with others. Twice a week you can catch me spinning some of the latest and greatest electronic tracks of today, Thursdays at 11pm on UMaine’s very own WMEB 91.9 FM and Fridays at 11pm-4am on Radio207.com. Each week I will be bringing you one of my favorite EDM tracks, varying from electro house, trap, dubstep, trip-hop, and more.
This week’s track is a throwback to Friday’s incredible Pretty Lights concert. Although there were some issues with admittance and tickets, no one can deny that it was a sound and sight experience to behold. The mix of lazer light visuals and gorgeously gritty sounds left my eyes and ears in a constant state of orgasm, or more appropriately, aurgasm. Pretty Lights has been bringing us a cacophony of glitch-hop, trip-hop, nu-jazz, electro funk, dubstep, soul, and jazz beauty since early 2007. With over 7 albums worth of music, Derek Smith is one of the most renown and influential producers in his wide genre coverage. I can say with confidence that he is one of my all time favorite electronic composers to date. He is one of the very few minds that can incorporate the gritty sounds of yesteryear, sampling and renewing classic genres, and incorporate it into a modern club venue with ease. His tracks leave you in a perpetual state of motion, making you jump, grind, fist-pump, and rage your way into EDM euphoria and at the same time leave you feeling high on his smooth and sultry grooves that uncontrollably make you want to nod your head in appeal. “I Can See It In Your Face” brought down the house on Friday and it has certainly been rocking my house ever since. This track certainly exemplifies the smooth groove and old school attitude that has made Pretty Lights so popular today. Enjoy; perhaps over and over again.
