For as long as I can remember, music has been a huge part of my life. I always take the time to listen to music either throughout the day or at night before I go to bed. When I was on campus, I always listened to music to start my day (which I highly recommend doing). I wanted to take the time to write about songs that I have enjoyed these past few months.

“Garden (Say It Like Dat)” by SZA

Sza is one of the best R&B artists out there right now. Even though her entire CTRL album is saved on my Spotify, this is one of my favorite songs by her. This song has an amazing beat and once the chorus hits it makes me feel like I am in space.

“Blue World” by Mac Miller

I listened to this song for the first time last year when his album came out, and I cannot stop listening to it. The background music in this song is incredibly unique and something that I have never heard before. This song is very positive and something that I would recommend everyone listesn to when they wake up in the morning.

“Magic Hour” by Jhené Aiko

This song in particular is incredibly relaxing. I recommend listening to it at night just before you are about to go to bed. If I could explain this song in one word it would be spiritual. Something that I love about this song is that it is incredibly transforming and peaceful.

“Self Love” by Dreamville

It is in the title, but this one is all about loving yourself which is so important. This song is incredibly uplifting and makes me feel great. It is so important to always try to take care of ourselves, especially in this crazy pandemic. If you are feeling down about yourself (which happens), I definitely recommend listening to this song to cheer you up.

Music is so influential and important to have in our lives. If there is anything that can take me back to a moment or feeling in my life, it is definitely music. Amid this pandemic and semester, it can be hard to remember to take care of yourself. For me, listening to music is one way that I practice self care. Leave your house right now, start your car, and jam out! That paper you have to write can wait a little longer. It is time to put yourself first.
