1. “The Grand Budapest Hotel” directed by Wes Anderson
This film is in theaters now! It has the makings to be a Wes Anderson classic, with quirky characters and one of a kind sets, and it’s almost guaranteed to have you leaving the theater satisfied. The plot revolves around the adventures of a famous European hotel and its two befriended employees. With a star studded cast including Adrien Brody, Ralph Fiennes, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jude Law and many more, this movie is sure to impress!
2. “Neighbors” directed by Nicholas Stoller
“Neighbors” is a movie that seems to be lacking in the advertising department, and I haven’t heard a lot of buzz going around, which really surprises me considering how much appeal there is to it. The light-hearted comedy starring Seth Rogen follows the story of two new parents having to deal with the rowdy new fraternity that has moved in next door and their fight for a peaceful neighborhood which soon turns into an all-out war. And just as an added bonus for us Collegiettes the frat president is played by the one and only Zac Efron.
3. “Transcendence” directed by Wally Pfister
Look out Collegiettes, Johnny Depp is back in action, this time as the world’s most famous scientist who is dying of a terminal illness. To save his life, he uploads his mind into a computer database and achieves unprecedented power that soon gets extremely out of hand and seemingly limitless. This film is going to be one epic-scale adventure that will wow audiences of all ages and genders. Its unique plot and fabulous cast leave us with a lot to look forward to and I think this is going to be one to remember.
4. “A Million Ways to Die in the West” directed by Seth MacFarlane
This is one that I’m surprised isn’t being talked about all across campus. It has the perfect combination of elements to make a great college movie. Seth MacFarlane has gathered an unbeatable cast including, but not limited to, Amanda Seyfried, Charlize Theron, Neil Patrick Harris, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman, and himself. This ensemble placed into the setting of an old west tumbleweed town is the makings of a MacFarlane great. I recommend checking out the Red Band trailer if you are interested; it will give you a more accurate preview of what’s in store with this up and coming Spring flick.
5. “Love Punch” directed by Joel Hopkins
This one may not be for everyone, but definitely deserves a lot more attention. While it may not center around a young and college-aged cast, this movie seems to be full of charm, charisma, and wit. Plus, with a protagonist played by the amazing Emma Thompson, how can you go wrong? This movie tells the story of a divorced couple who, with the help of some friends, attempt to steal a diamond necklace in hopes of recovering their retirement money that has been taken from them.
Happy viewing, Collegiettes!
