College has long been thought of as “the time to meet new people.” It’s the time to explore and have new experiences. Why then, does it seem so difficult to date in college?
1. Hook-Up Culture
Well, it might have something to do with the hook-up culture that college is known for. College has become a place of experimentation for many young adults. Having a casual hook-up buddy has become quite the norm. While this is great for those who are just looking for some kind of a meaningless physical relationship, it’s difficult for those who are looking for more than that.
2. Balancing A Social Life Can Be Hard
It can be hard to date while balancing time studying, with friends, going to club meetings, and working at your job. College is such a busy time, and there are so many things to do. It’s hard to be tied down when you want to experience everything that college has to offer.
3. #FOMO
We all have that fear of missing out. It’s hard to be with someone when you live on a campus where you’re able to meet new guys every day. College is the perfect place to meet people you never would have otherwise had the opportunity to meet. Gotta keep those options open!
4. School Breaks
While it can be fun to date at school, it can be difficult during school breaks. UMass’ winter break is about 5 weeks long, while summer break is about 3 ½ months. If you live far away from your boy, it can be depressing to not be able to see each other for so long, and the distance could greatly affect your relationship.
5. All The Good Men Are Taken
For centuries, women have been using this as an explanation as to why the dating life is so difficult. While it might seem like all the quality men at school already have girlfriends, there are definitely plenty who don’t. There’s no guarantee that it’ll be easy to find them, though!
Happy Dating!
