Art is everywhere whether you realize it or not. We are all artists. The creative juices that flow through our minds every day help fuel our talent, even when we don’t realize it. Art begins with a simple idea that can grow into something truly mesmerizing.
Take a moment and visualize what you believe to be art.
Music. Dance. Poetry. Painting. Math. Fashion. Science. Cooking. Theater. Construction. Soccer. Art ranges from A to Z. Get in touch with your artistic side because it can open your eyes to new ideas and you will see the world in a whole new light.Â
My name is Elizabeth Young and I love art. Recently I have had an epiphany. I attend UMass Amherst (best decision of my life) as a Resource Economics major with a Studio Art minor. Why did I choose this path? Well it’s because I initially thought it would be easier to find a job in the business field, but have realized that art is my true passion. Just today I submitted my portfolio that the art department will review and will determine if I am eligible to become a Studio Art or Inter-Media major. When you love what you do, people will love you. Success comes to those who enjoy what they do.
I currently take one foundations class that has roughly fifty students. They divide the class into three sections that the TA’s teach. At first I was very intimidated by all of the talented students, but the great thing about taking art classes, in general, is that it is a progressive learning experience. At first it may be difficult to grasp the concepts and figure out how to successfully achieve great results. Once you understand the instructions the professor gives you, then you can build off of your own ideas and inspirations. Another great thing about the art classes at UMass is all of the students. I look around and see a diverse group of people that all share the same love of art. We all critique each other’s work, but we do it with good intentions. I am never afraid to ask for a fellow classmates opinion because their input can truly help me expand my project.Â
Below I have attached some pictures of pieces of work that recent and former MFA candidates at UMass created. What I find to be so awesome about UMass Amherst is the high expectations it has for their students. I always feel challenged and I always want to become a more well rounded student. This university has truly molded me into a driven student whose thirst for success only becomes more irresistible as I get closer and closer to graduation.Â
