How does the word Sunday make you feel? Stressed and upset another long week is about to start? I thought so. I used to feel the same way and I would dread waking up on Sunday mornings because of all the work I had pushed off for the very last minute. What if Sundays didn’t have to be a dreaded day of the week? What if they could be full of self-care and relaxation? Just a few simple practices can shift your entire Sunday vibe.

Meditate

A quick five-minute meditation upon waking up is a great way to start your day on the right foot. Nighttime meditations are also an effective way to ensure a good night’s sleep. Practicing mindfulness will give you an opportunity to clear your mind before starting any work that needs to get done that day or anything that may weigh on your mind before heading to sleep.

Exercise

Exercise is something that can boost serotonin levels and create a positive mood and mental state. This can be going on a twenty-minute walk while listening to your favorite podcast, or it could be practicing yoga in the morning or before bedtime. Anything to get your body up and moving! Any form of exercise is a perfect way to set the tone for the week ahead of you and your body will be thanking you for it.

Spend Time With Family

The school and workweek are hectic and it can be hard to make time to spend with the ones you love. Use Sundays as an opportunity for this! Whether it’s a family dinner, a facetime call, or a text message, reach out to those you care about. Surrounding yourself with people who lift you up and want you to succeed is an important part of your happiness and well-being.

Self Care

Self care can come in many forms. Take an hour for yourself on Sundays to do something you enjoy, especially when you feel as though there’s no time for self care during the week. Personally, I enjoy face masks, bubble baths, reading, writing, coloring, and anything to take my mind off of the intense stress my mind feels constantly. Just an hour of an enjoyable project can improve your mood immensely.

The Sunday scaries are real and there are ways to ease them. Prioritize yourself and your mental health because you deserve to feel happy and calm during these crazy and uncertain times. Continue to work hard and grow through focus and dedication while also making time to do the things you love.
