She’s been featured on Perez Hilton, made it onto season 10 of American Idol and has performed hundreds of times including Carnegie Hall and The Apollo Theater. We were lucky enough to have Melanie take some time out of her busy day and answer some questions from us! And if that isn’t cool enough we were also given a link to provide our amazing readers with a FREE DOWNLOAD of her new song “First Time” -which we’ve officially become obsessed with! Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Melanie Lynx. I’m 20 but will be 21 in October…finally! I was born and raised in a small town in Rhode Island, surrounded by lots of farmland and beaches.
I am a Libra, night owl, and yes, I do sing in the shower.
For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words:
Feel-good. Fun. Genuine. Vibrant. Pop.
When did you realize singing was something you wanted to do professionally?
I started singing when I was four years old. At first it was just a hobby- I would pretend I was a Disney princess and sing Disney songs in local talent shows. But as I got older I started spending all of my free time focusing on practicing singing, performing, and writing music. By the time I was 13, I competed throughout New England in a crazy amount of singing competitions- and that’s when I realized performing is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.Â
Have you had any set backs in the music industry?
Set back after set back. I’ve been to numerous auditions and interviews where the door was closed in my face. If anything, it just makes you more motivated to succeed and try again.
If we were to turn on your ipod right now what would be under your 5 recently played songs?
1. Buzzin’- Shwayze
2. Wide Awake- Katy Perry
3. What Makes You Beautiful- One Direction
4. Lazy Eye- Silversun Pickups
5. Blood Bank- Bon Iver
If you could go on tour with any artists who would it be?
Definitely Katy Perry. She’s quirky and seems pretty down-to-earth. I think we’d get along well while on the road. Not to mention how ridiculously animated her live show is—I think that’s awesome.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
My free time is usually spent socializing. I love meeting new people in addition to hanging out with my friends. Everyone you meet has a cool story to tell. It’s a beautiful thing! I also love being outdoors and exploring new places, experiencing new things. Bike riding, swimming in the ocean, and roller coasters. Love. Roller coasters.Â
What are 5 things you can’t live without?
– music
– water
– people
– a toothbrush
– and (most importantly) love
What advice would you give to any college girl:
Ladies! Live every day genuinely and honestly. Do what you love because you love it and don’t give a sh*t about what other people think.
What is your favorite song to sing at the top of your lungs when no one is around?
When no one is around you’ll find me in attempts to gain some rapping skills.
Ten years from now you will be…
I will be 30. Touring the world, established in the music industry. By then I’ll hopefully have a special someone in my life and be surrounded by people I can call my great friends!
