Name: Sandi Scanlon
Age: 20
Year: Junior
Major: Communications
Hometown: Duxbury, MA
Relationship Status: Taken
Sign: Aries
Describe yourself in three words: Silly, creative, and open-minded
HC: How are you involved on campus?
SS: I’m in Alpha Epsilon Phi so I attend a lot of Greek events and philanthropies. I also plan on joining the Comm Club by the end of the semester.
HC: What are some of your hobbies?
SS: I love art and I really enjoy doing all kinds of art projects…I think my favorite is probably painting. I also love music, I used to play violin and piano but now I just listen. I like a lot of different genres and I’m constantly trying to find new stuff on the Internet.
HC: What are your plans after UMass?
SS: Realistically I’m probably going to have to move back in with my parents to save up some money. When I can afford my own place I plan on moving closer to Boston. I’m not sure what I want to do yet but I’d like to have a career in TV, journalism, or fashion.
HC: What is your dream job?
SS: If I could have any job I would definitely travel around the world and be a food critic…maybe I could even make a TV show out of it.
HC: What do you think is your best trait (personality and physically)?
SS: I think my best physical trait is the color of my hair because it’s sort of unique. My best personality trait is that I’m easygoing.
HC: Celebrity crush?
SS: It’s cliché but Ryan Gosling.
HC: Woman Crush Wednesday?
SS: It’s a toss up between Lana Del Rey and Eva Longoria.
HC: What would you say is the best part of being in a relationship?
SS: This is such a hard question because there are so many things I love about my boyfriend. I guess for me it’s nice to know that someone is always watching out for me and has my back. Whenever something bad or good happens I confide in him and vice versa. If I have a bad day he always has a way of making me laugh and forget about it. He just has a way of making me feel very comfortable and happy.
HC: So what does an ideal date look like with your boyfriend?
SS: It totally depends on my mood. A lot of times my favorite thing to do is get take out and watch Netflix together. But my favorite place to go out on a date is Judie’s.
HC: What is your most embarrassing moment?
SS: One time I was walking in the woods with my boyfriend and some of his friends and we had to go over this patch of twigs with mud underneath. Everyone was telling me to be careful walking across it and I brushed it off and said I would be fine. Then before I knew I tripped over a twig and I was lying in the mud. To top it all off I had trouble getting up then I had to hangout with everyone when I was all muddy.
HC: What is the number one item on your UMass bucket list?
SS: The last two years I was busy on the day of Blarney so I haven’t been able to go yet. It’s something I need to do before I graduate!
HC: What advice would you give to your freshman self?
SS: I would tell myself to be more confident and that it is okay to make mistakes. My first semester of freshman year I went to Lasell College and I hated it. I was kind of embarrassed that I made a huge deal about how excited I was to go to Lasell and then it was such a dud. I started to think college wasn’t meant for me and I really wanted to drop out. My parents convinced me to try going to UMass because I was already accepted for the spring semester. When I came to UMass I loved it and realized sometimes mistakes or wrong turns in life will just lead you to something better. So now, when I make mistakes or something doesn’t go my way I try not to freak out and think that maybe it’s meant to be.Â
