Donating Your Hair: The Perfect Opportunity To Re-Vamp Your Look!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Ladies, are you looking to change your look? We are always looking for new hairstyles to enter fall with but we never seem to have the courage to make the big cut. But now with a good reason to donate your locks, why wouldn’t you?Ā Nothing feels better than helping someone in need.

Camp Rainbow is a week of summer camp for cancer survivors and their family members that’s hosted in Maine at The Bangor YMCA Wilderness Center at Camp Jordan. At the end of the week, counselors, campers, and parents cut their hair in support of the cause and all the hair is donated to Locks of Love and Pantene. This is me cutting eleven inches off my hair this past summer!

That’s why this fall is the perfect time to cut those gorgeous locks and donate your hair to Locks of Love, Pantene, or other companies that take donations. Locks of Love, along with other hair donation companies, collect hair that men and women have donated and create wigs for men, women, and children who suffer from cancer and have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. Now I know cutting your hair can be traumatizing, but after seeing how your donation can affect someone in a big way, you’ll be at a loss for words at the joy you have brought to another. Donating your hair is just another excuse to cut off those dead ends you’ve been meaning to trim forever so why not? All you need is eight inches, your lovely self, and a pair of scissors! Hair that has been bleached is not accepted, but hair that has been colored is fine.

Check out some celebrities that have cut their hair and donated to this great cause:

U Mass Amherst

My name is Katy Rieber and I am currently a freshman at UMass. Right now I am undeclared but I am looking to go into public relations, journalism, communications, and studio art for photography. I am from New York City and I have a huge interest in fashion. I love seeing Fall Fashion Week in Manhattan and spotting cute street style. My fashion icons include Whitney Port, Lauren Conrad, Sarah Vickers, and Blair Waldorf. I am so excited to be writing for Her Campus and I'm looking forward to writing more articles as the year goes on.
