The rumors about Kylie Jenner’s pregnancy have roamed around for months now, with neither confirmation nor denial from any member of the Kardashian/Jenner Klan. But this past Sunday, Kylie announced that she gave birth to her baby girl on Feb. 1.
She posted an apology for her fans, saying that she was “sorry for keeping [them] in the dark through all the assumptions.” She briefly explained that she intended to keep her pregnancy private so she could be as stress-free as possible during the nine months.
After Kylie had virtually disappeared from the internet and was barely seen in public for several months, it was safe to assume that the pregnancy rumors were, in fact, true. However, the rumors were still up in the air, with no word about it coming from anyone in her close circle.
On Tuesday in an Instagram post showing her daughter holding onto her mother’s thumb, Kylie announced her daughter’s name: Stormi Webster. The picture has quickly become the most-liked photo in Instagram history, with over 13.8 million likes (and counting!).
It’s still unknown as to why Kylie and Travis Scott chose the name Stormi, but her last name, Webster, is traditional: it matches her father Travis’ last name, whose real name is Jacques Webster. Understandably, many people are confused. Personally, I like Stormi’s name, but so far it seems like others have mixed feelings about it. (But does it even matter?)
Kylie also posted a poignant, home-video style YouTube video titled “To Our Daughter” when she announced Stormi’s birth. It includes a brief summary of her pregnancy, and conveys Kylie and Travis’ excitement by featuring friends and family talking about the soon-to-be Stormi. Jordyn Woods, Kylie’s best friend, describes the moment when Kylie found out she was pregnant. She also expresses in the video that even though 20-year-old Kylie is young, she is meant to be a mother, and has always wanted to have her own children. “To Our Daughter” includes clips from Kylie’s baby shower, and even shows how she shared her pregnancy journey with her friend Heather Sanders and her sister KhloĂ© Kardashian, since all three of them became pregnant around the same time.
Stormi’s birth followed that of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter Chicago West on January 15 via a surrogate mother. With KhloĂ© not too far behind in her pregnancy, it doesn’t look like the family will stop growing any time soon. As Kris Jenner said in a recent episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the pregnancies in the family are “like a faucet that won’t turn off.”
While Stormi is still only a few days old, she is already one of the most talked about people of 2018. Without a doubt, as she becomes older and Kylie adjusts to motherhood, we will see much more of her. Until then, we can only look forward to the coming episodes of Keeping Up, which will hopefully reveal some more details of Kylie’s pregnancy and her relationship with Travis Scott.
