1. Gaga for Prez
There is no doubt that Queen Gaga has had some interesting outfit choices when it comes to award shows, but this year she channeled a modern Marilyn in an all-white ensemble with her platinum locks, frozen in time in a 40’s style updo. But more importantly she slayed the convo about rape culture. As a survivor herself, she explained how important it is for her to use the stage as a place to send a message. And of course, her performance which brought tears to many eyes, was in honor and support of her friend Ke$ha. Just for the record, #IStandWithKesha too.
2. Chris Rock nails controversy, but fails with #AskHerMore commentary
Chris Rock brought up all the right questions about the serious lack of black nominees at the Oscars this year. His approach was perfect, using his jokes as a commentary on this serious social issue, he nailed his monologue. Asking, is Hollywood racist? He replied to his own question saying they are sorority racist,“We like you Randa, but you’re not a kappa.” That was awesome, but what about his comment on the #AskHerMore campaign? Rock was definitely not trying to cut the campaign short, but his delivery kind of belittled what it really stands for.  Â
3. Mad Max winning mad Oscars
The Oscars were really the Mad Max show, but well deserved no doubt. It was an amazing movie for all the right reasons, and if you haven’t seen it, you should definitely check it out. The movie won in a total of six categories including: Costume Design, Film Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Production Design, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing. What a sweep!
4. The greatest plug ever, featuring: The Girl Scouts
Nothing better than Chris Rock calling out other cookie Mom Linda Dunn, and trying to get some of the richest people in the country (and maybe the world) to buy some Girl Scout cookies. While it looked like none of the millionaires were willing to pay up, turns out they raised $65,243. Go Girl Scouts and go Chris Rock for the best marketing ploy ever. Take that Linda Dunn…whoever you are.Â
5. LEO LEO LEO LEO LEO LEO LEO FINALLY.
YES! Leo for the win. Finally! Watching Leo get to accept his first Oscar was something that has been a long time coming for this extremely talented actor. It was, without a doubt, the icing on the Oscar cake. It only took ten seconds after his speech ended for the hilarious GIFs and memes to pop up all over the internet. It was so nice to watch a moment that we had all waited for, and something Leo clearly waited for, too. I think the best part though was that Leo brought his Mom to the awards. Swoon. We are never letting go Leo!
