As college students, we’ve all struggled with a lack of motivation to hit the gym. Although the campus Rec Center is a great resource, sometimes the same old elliptical routine is just unappealing, not to mention boring!

1. An off-campus hike
The advantages to living in Western Massachusetts include the large amount of hiking trails available. Luckily for students, UMass Transit Services provides transporation to the local conservation areas. Not only is this a fun adventure to take with friends, but also offers a more peaceful setting compared to the campus Rec Center.
2. The UMass Bike Share Program
This project was created to give students an alternative mode of transportation. Located at the Student Union, these bikes are available for people with a valid student ID to sign out for 24 hours. Rather than rehearse your repetitive treadmill routine, take an outdoor adventure and explore the local community.
3. Jogging in Downtown Amherst
Not only is there an abudance of space to get your work out on, but also froyo, bubble tea, and infinite passion tea lemonade to reward you!
4. Anywhere outside on campus
Because of how huge campus is, UMass offers both public and private spaces to strengthen those muscles. Transform the benches in Southwest into step platforms, utilize the shady spots under the trees in Northeast to do planks, and employ the staircases in Honors as your very own stairmaster. There are so many places on campus where you can work out and get some fresh air.
5. A student-run organization
From the amount offered here at UMass, there are countless exercise clubs and intramural sports that may actually make you look forward to sweating. Dance Club, Ice Hockey, Jiu jitsu, Outing Club, and Ultimate Frisbee are just a few of many that promote both physical activity and friendship.
