If you’re reading this, I am assuming you can relate to the frustration of getting your period at the most inconvenient times! On top of this inconvenience, sprinkle in some cramps, nausea, exhaustion, you name it. Period symptoms have no mercy, so being a college student with a uterus can be draining. Focusing on academics while managing period symptoms is something that I struggle with. I catch myself skipping classes when it is that time of the month because of the rest my body needs, but then getting anxious about what I’ve missed in class. Learning how to manage my period symptoms has made it easier for me to be productive and attend classes when I am on my period. Continue reading to find out how I manage my period symptoms as a college student!
- OVIRA
-
OVIRA Period Cramp Relief Device is a drug free period cramp solution that I swear by! The device uses TENS technology to soothe period cramps by sending electrical pulses through the stick on pads. This technology stops pain signals that travel to your brain! When I am experiencing cramps, OVIRA is the first thing I use! I stick this on either my stomach or back and have instant relief.
- Yoga
-
When I am experiencing period pain, I try my best to be active. Research shows that high-intensity exercises are not good for when you’re experiencing period symptoms. On the other hand, yoga is a great way to reduce period pain from cramping! Doing some stretching is what helps me push through my hard days.
- Diet
-
The past six months I have been eating a low-inflammation diet. This diet has been helping my extreme period symptoms (due to Endometriosis and Adenomyosis). Eating foods that decrease inflammation have been proven to tame menstrual cramps. I recommend looking into gut health to benefit your menstruation!
- Disposable Menstrual Heat Patch
-
Menstrual heat patches are perfect for anyone on the go, just like us college students! When I don’t want to leave my electric heating pad and bed, I stick on a menstrual heat patch. These warm my stomach or back similarly to how my heating pad would work. You can find them at your local pharmacy.
- Tea
-
Instead of using over the counter medication, I prefer natural remedies! Everyones body is different, but I have found that drinking tea helps soothe my period symptoms. If I am having painful cramps, I make peppermint tea because peppermint tea is known for reducing cramping. I also enjoy green tea, a tea that helps with inflammation and bloating. Pouring tea into a travel mug is perfect for when I have classes and am on the go.
As a college student with a period, I know how frustrating and draining it can be to focus on academics when I am feeling yucky. I hope that the next time you’re experiencing period symptoms, you give my period remedies a shot!
