Meet Venous Hamza, a senior Kinesiology major. Currently, Venous is working on becoming a physicians assistant and working in the medical field.
HC: What made you want to be a Kinesiology major?
VH: I love science. In my opinion, it is the most interesting field to work in, whether you are doing research or hands-on work. I have loved science-related subjects since I was younger. Kinesiology was perfect for me to declare as a major because I wanted to know more about the human body specifically. I have had dreams of working in the medical field since I was very young and found that Kinesiology would allow me to further my education towards working in this field.
HC: What advice would you give to undergraduates who don’t know what they want to do?
VH: Ask those around you who have declared their major or just do your own research. I made the mistake of not looking further into what I could be in the medical field and that set me back slightly. If I had known what I could do with the Kinesiology major sooner, it would have saved me a lot of time and stress. If I could redo my undergraduate career, I certainly would.
HC: Scary question, but what are your plans after graduation?
VH: I want to be a physician’s assistant in either the emergency department or pediatrics. Not only have I dreamed of working in the medical field basically my whole life, but I also have a deep love for children. I love working with them, being around them, and helping them in any way that I can. I aspire to bring any child’s life more joy by helping them regain health.
HC: What are you involved in on campus?
VH: I am a apart of National Society of Leadership and Success, the UMass Arabs Club and I work at the UMass Recreation Center. I have tried to further my contribution to the UMass community by TA’ing for Anatomy and Physiology 2 lab.
HC: What do you like to do in your free time?
VH: I love to go hiking, play basketball and soccer, go to the beach, spend time with friends and family and my dog (Jaxx), and volunteering at Boston Children’s Hospital
