I don’t know about you, but I was ready for the holiday season this year. Honestly, I’ve been looking forward to Christmas since September 1st. I’m not really the type to start listening to Christmas music on September 1st, but now that Thanksgiving is over…I’m ready to go full swing into my holiday playlists. Here are some of my all time favorites:
- “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey
-
This is easily my favorite Christmas song. Whether you’re playing it in a car full of friends, at a yankee swap, or as you’re getting ready to decorate the tree, you really can’t go wrong with Mariah Carey.
- “White Winter Hymnal” by Fleet Foxes
-
This is another “can’t go wrong” song for any occasion. Although this isn’t typically on a Christmas playlist, it’s the perfect way to put everyone in a holiday mood.
- “Christmas Tree Farm” by Taylor Swift
-
This one’s for the girls who are always told they play too much Taylor Swift. Put this on your playlist to remind your friends that she can do it all… ;)
- Anything by Frank Sinatra
-
The ultimate Christmas party life hack is to put on any Frank Sinatra radio/mix and just let it play. He has so many Christmas classics, and his jazz style does a great job of setting the tone for any chill holiday gathering.
- “Winter Prayers” by Iron & Wine
-
Again, this technically isn’t a holiday song, I just like to listen to it around this time of year. Any low-key indie music is such a comfort to me, especially during the winter months.
- “Come Out and Play” by Billie Eilish
-
This song has surprising holiday vibes. It paints a beautiful picture of a winter scene, and it’s just so calming. It’s perfect for driving around and looking at all the Christmas lights in your neighborhood.
- “Santa Baby” by Eartha Kitt
-
This is another classic Christmas song. It’s perfect background music for online shopping and playing Santa for your friends and family (and yourself!).
- “Lights On” by Tyler, the Creator
-
I feel like this song is so underrated. Tyler, the Creator released this song in an album inspired by Dr. Suess’ The Grinch. The combination of a Christmas classic with R&B is right up my alley, and I’m sure a lot of you will feel the same.
To me, the most special part of holiday music is the nostalgia it brings from years past. When you’re creating your playlist this Christmas season, remind yourself that this will be the background music of memories made, and that friends and family will remember for years to come.
