Traveling is one of the most rewarding experiences — yet, as the world becomes increasingly globalized, travelers are seeking more unique experiences that cater to specific passions. Typical tourist attractions are bombarded by travelers, creating a stressful environment, financial hardship, and chaos.

Thus, here are some of my favorite niche travel destinations that are guaranteed to offer a refreshing look into the innovative offerings the world has to offer!

Oberstdorf, Germany

Located at the southernmost point of Germany, Oberstdorf was genuinely the most beautiful, scenic place I have ever been. Filled with luscious green grass and spectacular mountains for hiking, skiing, or viewing, Oberstdorf has something to offer everyone!

The food is absolutely incredible, and Oberstdorf prides itself on having “the best cheese in all of Germany.” My favorite was a BlĂĽmen Käse, or flower cheese, that uncharacteristically tasted nothing like flowers but was beautiful and tasty!

Waking up to the fresh air, surrounded by the Bavarian Alps, is my picture-perfect morning, and as a bonus, they have one of the highest cow populations in all of Germany!

Will the relentless tinkling of cowbells slowly drive you insane? Probably — but you’ll have to visit to find out!

Lucerne, Switzerland

Offering a beautiful look into the Swiss Alps, Lucerne combines medieval architecture, rich culture, and snow-capped mountains to cultivate a perfect vacation! Although relatively expensive, Lucerne has unique attractions such as the Chapel Bridge (free!!!), the Spreuerbrücke — a preserved footbridge, and dozens of boat tours through the beautiful Lake Lucerne.

As a bonus, I’d recommend you visit SprĂĽngli and try their world-famous “Luxemburgerli” — light and airy macarons made from the freshest ingredients.

Seriously, these are the best macarons I’ve ever had.

sylt, Germany

Acting as the “German Cape Cod,” Sylt is a beautiful island located off of Northern Germany and offers up the most picturesque beaches. Beachgoers can participate in a variety of activities such as windsurfing and kitesurfing, or simply wading in the North Sea.

Sylt also offers some of the most delectable, high quality seafood — be sure to try Gosch am Kliff for their local delicacies!

innsbruck, Austria

As a major The Sound of Music fan, I naturally find Austria to have captivated a piece of my heart. With beautiful mountain ranges, Innsbruck is arguably the best place to ski and watch others participate in the impressive, yet terrifying, Bergisel Ski Jump!

For the adrenaline seekers, be sure to test your nerves at the Highline179 Suspension Bridge! Terrifying, for sure, but an experience to remember!

FĂśssen, germany

Last but most certainly not least, Füssen is filled with magic and is bound to create an enchanting experience for tourists. Start at the Neuschwanstein Castle — the direct inspiration for the castle at Disneyland! It is incredibly fairytale-like, and made 4-year-old me feel like a princess!

Downtown has quaint coffee shops, baroque churches, and medieval architecture!

Although a short list, these travel destinations will create memories to last a lifetime!
