For me, online classes have had my stress level pretty high. I just constantly find myself getting overwhelmed with readings, deadlines, and papers. So here are four ways to handle the stress of this semester!

Get a planner

My planner has pretty much saved my life, or at least helped me get my sh*t together. For the first couple of weeks of classes, I didn’t have one and already felt like I was drowning. So I went out and got a planner with a cute floral pattern on the front and I was ready to take on anything. With online classes, it can sometimes feel like the deadlines have blurred together and you just don’t know where to start. Having a planner helped me plan when assignments are due and when I should start them. I got one that has a full month calendar and also breaks down the weeks, and so far it has worked great. You really don’t need anything fancy though, because some of them can be pricey. You can write a to-do list on a memo pad or create a Google sheet. It’s more about the concept than what medium you use.

Try out some new workouts or exercises

Exercise can be a great way to relieve stress and it can take all the anxiety, anger, and stress that’s been dragging you down off your shoulders. This can be anything like going on a walk in your neighborhood or watching a workout video on Youtube. Some places are even doing online work out classes! So try whatever method you prefer and hopefully it can help you release stress.

Take some time for yourself

It can be easy to completely devote yourself to school and your work, but you have to remember to leave time for yourself. Schoolwork can be draining and sometimes the best way to relieve stress is to take a break. For me, I love watching a movie or doing something in the arts and crafts area. Currently, I’m crocheting a blanket I started six years ago that I never finished (hopefully I’ll finish it soon). Doing something like crocheting or embroidering is a great way for me to calm down and take a break from deadlines and assignments. Taking breaks is essential and whether that’s just getting out of the house for a bit to grab coffee with a friend or winding down on the couch, it’s a great way to handle and relieve your stress.

Meditate

Meditating can be a great way to clear your mind and center yourself during stressful times. Now, this doesn’t mean you have to dedicate hours to meditate. A good session (and a good time to start with) can be only five minutes. Just taking five minutes to yourself and guiding your breathing can be a great way to relieve stress. You can listen to a guided mediation or just set a timer, but make sure you’re comfortable.

I know doing your college classes virtually can be stressful, but remember to try and put your mental health first. I hope this list was helpful!
