It’s about that time of year again Collegiettes! The time when we embrace all that comes along with the changing leaves, the crisp breeze, and the overwhelming amount of items that suddenly come in a pumpkin flavor. Now, I love scarves and boots just as much as the next girl, however this year I just can’t get myself to pack away the crop tops and skirts away until 2015 just yet. My solution? To do my best to add a taste of summer to the inevitable fall wardrobe.
Maxi Monday
Now I know what you are thinking, “A skirt on a Monday?” I am well aware that it’s hard enough to open your eyes on a Monday morning. However, I have personally braved this look and don’t regret it one bit. Do you hate parting with your blanket in the morning? A maxi skirt is comforting and warming enough due to its length to feel as if you didn’t part with your blanket at all. Sounds crazy? Maybe, but don’t knock it until you try it. Although maxi skirts are usually associated with beachy, sunny days, sticking to darker colors and fall-like patterns tend to decrease the summer vibe. With a summery bottom like a maxi skirt, a t-shirt with a cardigan or jean jacket would be better for fall weather vs. something like a crop top or a tank top.
Crop Top Tuesday
Because they were in just about any store you walked into this summer, I accidentally purchased way more crop tops than I would ever need. With that said, I believe I would be cheating myself if I limited crop tops to only summer. For example one of my favorite outfits is a crop top with high waisted jeans and a flannel. Whether you would prefer to complete your outfit with combat boots, converse, or flats; this outfit fits so many individual styles. You can never go wrong with outfit choice number two: colored denim high waisted jeans with any crop top (designed, graphic, plain) and a cardigan or sweater for the chill of fall.
Wacky Bottom Wednesday
Okay so if you want to get technical, I am really referring to patterned leggings and jogger pants. They come in all colors, styles, and patterns. Some may refer to them as “wacky” but for those of us who love them like me, we’re in luck because they are in style. Not only are they comfortable and a more acceptable form of sweatpants, pattern leggings look adorable with sweaters. Also, jogger pants can be paired with just about anything you want; short sleeve, long sleeve, graphic tee, it’s all up to you.
Throw-over Thursday
Some days of fall by the peak of the afternoon can alost feel like summer. However, when we get up in the morning it almost feels like winter is approaching. Outfits for days like these usually consist of an outfit that will fit the hot weather with something that I “throw-over it”. My favorite throw-overs are jackets- colored, denim, even sometimes just a plain black zip up. They enhance an outfit while keeping you warm, but you can also take them off so you’re not sweating in the middle of the day.
Floral Friday
Floral patterns have been very popular in just about everything; skirts, dresses, shirts, and even accessories like headbands. Although flower patterns are mostly popular in spring and summer, there are many floral patterns in earthier tones that fit the darker shades of fall fashion. Adding a scarf to an outfit with a floral pattern will also blend the styles of summer and fall.
Skater Skirt Saturday
Skater skirts are not only adorable, but can be dressed up, dressed down, and mix and matched. A skater skirt can be worn with any top (long sleeve, short sleeve, crop top, tank top) and could also be worn with just about any jacket. You can wear a skater skirt during the day, but you can also dress up your outfit at night by adding accessories like statement necklaces.
Sweatpants Sunday
Sunday is the day of the week when most of us cram on work, lounge on a couch, and leave the house as minimally as possible. Sundays, in my opinion, are meant for sweatpants, messy hair and no makeup. We’ve made it through yet another week! To celebrate, eating pizza and wings on the couch in your favorite pair of sweatpants only seems right.
Don’t put those summer clothes away, yet, ladies. Get the most out of your wardrobe by mixing your fall and summer clothes before the cold officially sets in!
