#OverIt: Instagram Pictures That Are Getting Old

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Instagram is awesome. It’s a fun way to post a quick photo of your daily shenanigans for your friends to see without having to upload an entire album. But there are some pretty popular photo trends that seem to always pop up on everyone’s feed that are getting old. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t guilty of posting some of these myself, but I think it’s time we all start thinking twice before hitting “share.”

#SelfieSunday

There is a plague sweeping our nation that we have got to get a handle on. It is a plague that affects us all, and we have got to stop it before it’s too late. It is the selfie, and it’s just got to stop. We all have those days when our hair falls just right and our makeup comes out perfectly, but there is no need to post super sexy, close-up, pouty lip, sassy eye (you get the point) pictures constantly. It may give someone the wrong impression.

#TBT

Posting a childhood photo every so often is cute, but posting one every week can get a bit annoying. Especially when the “throwback” is from last week.

#Starbucks

I know, Starbucks is great. But I trust you when you say you love pumpkin spice lattes, no need for photographic evidence.

#Dranks

Posting pictures for the sake of showing off your alcohol can seem a bit desperate and can actually get you into some trouble. I don’t mean to go all mom on you, but nothing you post on the internet is truly private, so you should be wary of what you’re putting online!

#Picstitch

Posting collages of 10+ photos of your night out or a shout out for your best friend’s birthday is really just an eyesore. Choose 1 or 2 that capture the best moments of the event and post those.

It’s great to let people see what you’re up to by posting pictures on social media, just make sure, as with everything, that you do it in moderation!
