The arrival of a New England fall brings a chill in the air, the crunching of leaves, and the scent of all things pumpkin spice. It’s the time of year when my sherpa blankets, cable-knit sweaters, and suede boots start to make their way out of the back of my closet. I love the coziness and playfulness that fall fashion brings and the trends that flow through my Instagram and Pinterest feeds. This fall some cute and cozy fashion items have caught my eye and I can’t wait to see them in everyone’s outfits!
- Boleros and Shrugs
-
As the weather has been getting cooler, it’s time to hide the sleeveless tops under a sweater or cardigan…or is it? With bolero sweaters and shrugs, you can throw on a barely-there sweater that is essentially just a pair of sleeves. I love how you can still show off your tiny tops without worrying about the cold! Many shrugs also come with a matching tank to create a layered, matching set with a cut-out effect. They’re great for casual wear over a tank top, formal wear over a sleeveless dress, and for waiting in long bar lines in 40-degree temperatures. Many brands have created their own takes on the bolero/shrug trend, from Princess Polly’s thick sweater bolero to Alo Yoga’s athleisure shrug top.
- Modified Corset Tops
-
We’ve seen the corset top weave its way into fairy and pirate Halloween costumes and into our going-out wardrobes over the past few years. And as cute as it is, you’re probably tired of seeing the same Urban Outfitters Out From Under Modern Love Corset appearing in every other post on your Instagram feed. I think the corset top trend is here to stay for at least a little while longer, but it has begun to evolve. Enter the seamless corset. It keeps the corset silhouette but removes the tight, structured boning. I really like the minimalist, shadow-version of the corset top, like this long-sleeve seamless corset top from Garage and this seamless corset sweater from Abercrombie.
On the runway, we can see Versace has their own take on the evolution of the corset top. Their Women’s Fall Winter 2022 show features corsets with long sleeves, satin materials, and simple silhouettes in bright, fantastical colors. I love a silky, satiny look and it’s exciting to see a luxury brand combine the trendy corset with such an elegant material.
- Oversized Blazers
-
As a newcomer to the corporate world, I’m loving the business-casual that is entering the fashion space this season. Blazers seem to be a major player in fall outerwear. The oversized dad-blazer can be styled in so many ways and crafted with different materials for different vibes. This blazer from Djerf Avenue is a version of one of the most quintessential blazer-basics I’ve seen this season. It’s soft yet put-together, and perfect for layering during the fall months. I’ve also been a big fan of leather blazers (like this one from Zara), which can be dressed up or down during the day or the night. With knee-high equestrian-inspired boots and a pleated skirt, the oversized blazer is a blanket of warmth and style that is sure to be an autumn favorite.
Although trends are coming and going faster than ever before, I think that boleros, shrugs, seamless corset tops, satin corset dresses, and oversized blazers are items that are both pretty and practical to wear. Try a bolero over your favorite summer top before it gets too cold, style a modified corset top this Halloween, or throw on an oversized blazer before going on your coffee run in the morning. Enjoy the chill that fall brings and all the fashion styles that come with it!
