The college application process is one of the most stressful things that we, as students, have to go through in our lives. Sending in a plethora of applications and materials, writing the college essay, and answering supplemental questions are overwhelming and exhausting. After that process is done, all the acceptances that start to roll in make us feel absolutely elated. However, there is also the anxiety and uncertainty that comes with deciding which college to attend. I was in that same boat during my senior year of high school because I absolutely had no idea which college I wanted to go to. I would constantly go back and forth with my decision, and I didn’t end up choosing a college until the last few days before the deadline. That being said, I am so happy and grateful that I chose UMass Amherst because I can’t imagine myself attending college anywhere else.Â
One of the main reasons that I chose UMass is because it is a significantly large school. Coming from a fairly small high school with a graduating class of about 70 students, I wanted to attend a college that had a large student population so that I could meet people who come from different backgrounds and cultures. That being said, we have all heard the expression, “you can make a big campus small, but you can’t make a small campus big.” Although UMass is such a large school, I have been able to find a great group of friends that I can spend my time with, and I never feel lonely or lost here despite the campus being so big. I was able to take a tour of UMass before the pandemic, and during the tour, I absolutely fell in love with the campus and the environment. When I toured the campus, I just got the feeling that UMass was where I belonged.Â
I’m a business major, and another one of the main reasons that I chose UMass is because UMass has an amazing and reputable business program. I wanted to major in Operations and Information Management (OIM), and this is such a unique major that not a lot of other colleges have. I knew that the Isenberg School of Management at UMass would provide me with a world-class education, and I was confident that I would be able to land a successful job upon graduation. Isenberg has lots of different companies, employers, and recruiters come in and talk to us about the opportunities they have for us. I love that UMass provides this opportunity for Isenberg students to connect with employers. I have face-to-face connections with several recruiters from different companies, which has helped me land a couple of prestigious internships, and I would not have been able to secure these internships if it wasn’t for the opportunities that Isenberg provides me with.
Additionally, I really liked the fact that UMass offers so many different majors, minors, and certificates. I wanted to double major or minor in something in addition to my BBA degree, and I knew that I would have a plethora of options to choose from at UMass.Â
I can’t talk about UMass without mentioning the food here. The food here is absolutely amazing, and there are so many options that we can choose from every single day. While I do miss home-cooked food, I never have to worry about my meals, and I never have to worry about finding good food options because UMass provides me with everything I need. In addition to four amazing dining halls across campus, there are several retail dining locations on campus, such as cafes, bakeries, and more.Â
Overall, I have absolutely loved my time at UMass Amherst so far, and I am beyond glad that I decided to attend UMass.
