For most of us, this isn’t our first time celebrating Halloween in college. It’s one of the most anticipated holidays of the year and it is definitely one of the best. But be sure that while you’re dancing the night away, you’re not wearing the same costume as 100 other girls around campus. Try to avoid these looks to ensure you don’t look too basic.
1. A Frozen character
So maybe we aren’t quite done with the Frozen craze. Elsa is literally an ice queen, Anna is so girl-next-door, and “Let it Go” is still stuck in your head, but unless you have two feet of white hair or are the cutest ginger on the planet, forget about this costume. Hundreds of girls and their roommates around campus will be wearing it and we all know you don’t want to get lost in the crowd.
2. A sexy nurse/cop/animal/devil
It’s a rite of passage for all freshmen to try one of these costumes just once. But besides that, you have got to be pretty desperate to pair a tiny black dress with cat ears or a plastic police badge. We go to the University of Michigan, people! Please tell me you can be more creative than that.
3. A Harry Potter character
Don’t get me wrong; I am passionate about everything Harry Potter related. It’s on my bucket list to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and I even made butterbeer once, but unless you want to be looked at as incredibly cliché, ditch the scarlet and gold.
4. Beyoncé
I get it; everyone wants to be Queen Bey. She’s an amazing performer and an inspiration for women everywhere and that’s great and all, but everyone is going to dress like her this Halloween. After all, college girls everywhere are obsessed with her. Plus, I hate to tell you, no one is going to know who you are unless you pin a nametag to your chest.
5. Minnie Mouse
I had long forgotten about this Disney cartoon until tonight, when five of my sorority sisters left the house sporting the famous Minnie Mouse ears and not intentionally. I don’t remember the last time I saw anything to do with Mickey and/or Minnie Mouse, but I guess it’s just a Halloween costume that will live for years to come.
May the odds of finding a somewhat original costume be in your favor!
