When the sun rises just five minutes before your 8 a.m., it can be difficult to pull together a semi-cute outfit when all you want to do is hit snooze and sleep until spring break. It’s especially true when Ann Arbor’s mood swings have you questioning whether you need your parka; (hint: you do. It may feel like a heat wave compared to the negatives we know all too well, but 28 degrees still warrants a down jacket). Lucky for us, winter styles are going on sale as spring approaches—even though we know AA still has a few months of bitterly cold weather ahead—so it’s a perfect time to stock up! Here are a seven easy ways to stay warm, as well as stylish, as we prepare for the home stretch of winter at Michigan.Â
1. Leaving for class without a scarf is a mistake you only make once. This necessity is a mere $10 from etsy.com and you can pick from 29 different colors!
2. Scarves are on this list twice because there are too many wind tunnels on this campus for them not to be absolutely essential. My roommate has this one and described it as “the softest thing that has ever graced this earth,” and I 100% agree. Buy this one from Urban Outfitters for $17.
3. These slouchy socks are perfect for any style of boot, and for staying warm at home! Buy a pair at Urban Outfitters for $14.
4. Take advantage of the reemergence of corduroys from the 70s. Not only will they keep you warm, but they’ll add a bit of texture to your wardrobe. Bonus: You’ll be proud of yourself for wearing something other than leggings. Buy these at Anthropologie for $69.95.
5. When it’s not quite cold enough to commit to a hat, a fleece-lined headband will do the trick. These are available at Dick’s Sporting Goods for $20.
6. A personal favorite of mine, cowl neck sweaters are a go-to for winter. Casual and comfy, you can wear them with jeans or leggings. Buy this one at Nordstrom for $48.
7. The beanie is not only a popular trend this season, but a practical one as well. I highly encourage making the $7 investment in this one from Nordstrom. When you wake up 20 minutes before class, it’ll be your best friend.
