Five Winter Essentials for your Makeup Bag

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

Halloween is (unfortunately) over, and if you’re from Michigan, you know what that means: winter is coming. Starbucks is getting out their holiday cups and all the cider mills are slowly closing up.  Christmas lights are even starting to make appearances down South U. To make sure this holiday season doesn’t catch you by surprise, start checking out those winter makeup essentials now!

1. Lip Balm

My favorite is Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment because it’s super moisturizing. You can get even get them tinted to add some color to your white, winter complexion. Not only do they look great, they also smell delicious.

2. Lipstick

Sometimes tinted lip balm isn’t enough. For those moments, we turn to lipstick. I recommend MAC’s Satin Lipstick in Rebel. If applied lightly, it comes out like a berry color, but if applied heavily, you’re pretty much runway ready.

3. Waterproof mascara

The winter wind and snow can wreck havoc on your mascara, making you look like you bawled your eyes out on the way to class. Invest in a good waterproof mascara that will stay on your lashes all day long. My favorite is Diorshow Waterproof Mascara, but for every day I’d stick to Maybelline’s Volum’ Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara.

4. Eyeshadow

My all time favorite makeup product, eyeshadow, can really help you set the mood. Want to look innocent? Go with a pink or nude color. Feeling dangerous? Try a dark smoky eye. For this time of year, it’s all about the shimmer. I am currently obsessed with Nars’ Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Callisto or Dione (or any color, really). They come in a variety of colors, and can be toned down to look more natural or can be played up for those extra special evenings.

5. Bronzer

When it’s snowing outside, it’s easy to long for that summer sun and your awesome summer tan. Pretend it’s still July by applying some Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna. It’ll help warm up your complexion so you can at least trick your mirror into thinking it’s summer.
