Whether you have season tickets or plan on attending only a single game, the game day outfit is important. As the season goes on, the Michigan weather becomes more and more unpredictable and you’ll either be overdressed or underdressed — so here’s compiled a list of some fan-favorite game day outfit hacks to be sure that you’re comfy and lookin’ super spirited.
- Team spirit face tattoos
A game day staple, temporary face tattoos/stickers are the perfect way to add a little extra spirit. Full disclosure, though, if the sun is out, you WILL get a fun tan line, so we recommend these for late afternoon or night games.
- ID and Lanyard
Unfortunately, The Big House has a no-bag policy, so it’s important to find an alternative for holding your M-Card, money and any other small essentials like chapstick. Jean pockets work, but they aren’t nearly as cheerful or spirited as a Michigan Zip ID and Lanyard. Vera Bradley just came out with a whole collection of Michigan styles and we absolutely love this one for game day.
- Cold Weather Headband
Though the weather this semester so far has been surprisingly warm, lest we forget that this is Michigan, and the cold is inevitable. Games late in the season are, to put it gently, FREEZING. In order to survive this tundra, we recommend a cheerful cold-weather Michigan headband or hat (and a surplus of hand and foot warmers). The M Den always has a plethora of warm weather fan gear so you can cheer on the Wolverines without being too cold.
- Long Sleeve Shirt
It’s no secret that the new Nike gear for Michigan is totally adorable and this long sleeve shirt is no exception. Long sleeve spirit shirts are perfect to pair with a warm vest and leggings.
- Crazy Leggings
As a college student, it’s important to exercise your ability to wear absolutely ridiculous outfits, and game days are the perfect time to do so. Crazy leggings are a great way to add to a game day outfit and they pair great with boots or sneakers.

There are only a short number of days in the year, and years in your life where it’s acceptable to dress obnoxiously and get away with it — football season in college is one of those times. So go all out, make your way down State Street looking like a walking Michigan billboard. You only get four or so years of this craziness, so make the most of it.
