If you’re a freshman, it’s safe to assume that your first semester at Michigan has been particularly eventful. Some of you may have accomplished everything you sought to do this semester, but for the typical student, balancing classes, schoolwork, and extra-curriculars may have gotten in the way of taking advantage of everything Michigan has to offer. With some help from my older peers who had been through it all before me, I figured out how to get a sense of the Michigan experience without skimping out on my commimtments.
Objective: Explore the Arboretum…without wasting hours getting lost
Solution: Relocate your workout!
Take a break from the CCRB and spend the time you would spend at the gym at the Arb. Take a run through the pretty paths and do some yoga in a quite field. You’ll workout just as hard while exploring an area unique to UMich.
Objective: Paint the rock…without missing your club meeting
Solution: Organiza a rock painting night!
Rep a cause you’re passionate about at the rock on Hill and Washtenaw. It’s a fun bonding experience and one of the quintessential experiences every Michigan student should do at some point in their college career.
Objective: Sit in amazing seats at the Big House…without waiting until you’re an upperclassmen
Solution: Order your parents weekend football tickets early!
Football Saturdays are perhaps the most fun component of the Michigan experience, but since where your assigned student seat is depends on the number of credit hours you have, you can’t hope to have great seats until you’re a junior or senior. Next year, be sure to register for your family football tickets early. All of the tickets are the same price and each family can get up to 4 tickets together, but your row is based on a first-come-first-serve basis, so families who sit near the front paid the same as those who sat high up and got their tickets later. My parents and I were lucky enough to sit in the 14th row!
