101 Week Guide Series: Aeriel Kent

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

Name: Aeriel Kent

Program: International Development and Globalization; Business Administration

Graduation Year: 2015

Hometown: Toronto

Fun Fact about yourself: I can eat two Big Mac meals in under twenty minutes.

HC: What did you do this summer? What is your plan for this year?AK: This summer I worked with a non-profit in Toronto. This year I plan on travelling and (hopefully) finding a job somewhat related to my field.

HC: What did you like the most about being a 101 Week Guide?AK: The excuse to dance like crazy to shameless music.

HC: What’s your best memory from 101 Week?AK: Definitely the courtyard party and kit sales! Lots of shameless dancing, cheering, and hype.

HC: Would you recommend students to become guides for 101 Week?  AK: Absolutely! I became a guide because I was a Fed Body executive member, but I wish I’d gotten involved before that.

HC: What advice would you give your undergraduate self?AK: Don’t just study, learn. I graduated with solid marks but wish that I’d really taken the time to understand all my readings and discuss them, not just focused on memorizing key concepts for exams.

HC: What will you miss the most from uOttawa?AK: The city itself! I came to Ottawa and wasn’t a fan, but it grew on me so quickly. I’ll also miss the DSA (Development Students’ Association) office, and Nelson St.!

HC: What is your current short-term goal?AK: Definitely to find a job in my field, explore grad school options, and improve my Big Mac Meal eating time.
