As the summer weather begins to fade and the crisp fall air arrives, so do layers of knits, sweaters and scarves. Fall isn’t the optimal season for feeling motivated when it comes to keeping up with your workouts and clean eating, not to mention the upcoming holiday that will cause you to feel full for days! The school semester has kicked in and you’re becoming busy with readings, assignments and preparing for midterms all the while trying to stay fit and healthy too. If you’re in need of some help or encouragement when it comes to staying on track, I’ve found a few mobile apps that will do just the trick!
Tone It Up:
Maybe some of you know that I am a Tone It Up supporter, I have their nutrition plan and follow their weekly workout schedule. Tone It Up’s community helps me stay on track and feel accountable for my workouts and achieving the fitness goals that I set each month, week and day. You can follow them on toneitup.com as well as download their app, “Tone It Up” to have the motivation you need to complete your workout right in your own hand. They provide well-instructed printable routines that are free and your trainers, Karena and Katrina, are full of energy and positivity.
My Fitness Pal:
My Fitness Pal has come up in conversation lately and is known as an easy and free app that counts calories for you. You simply have to input the food you’re consuming (app has over 3 million foods) and stay committed to this. By recording your daily intake of food consumed, it creates a feeling of accountability. You won’t want to eat a handful of chips if you know you’ll have to record it in My Fitness Pal, thus resulting in not consuming those small and devious snacks that can be keeping you from reaching your fitness or weight goals.
Nike Training App
The workouts on this app are lead by professional athletes, which inspires you throughout the tough workout that this app provides. I discovered this app 4 years ago and it’s been killer ever since. Once set up the app account, and don’t worry, you won’t be overloaded with e-mails, you can choose a goal: get lean, get toned, get strong or get focused. Once decided what your goal is for that workout, there are routines available that are assigned to beginners, intermediate and advanced. The next step is to choose which length of workout you would like to complete, either a 30 or 45 minute workout. I would highly recommend this workout app if you’re looking for some structure when headed to the gym. I never leave the gym after doing a nike training app workout without my legs feeling like jelly, out of breath and glistening with sweat.
Value Diary
I recently added this app to my iPhone after my sister recommended it to me. I had been journaling my eating habits throughout the summer with an old school pad and paper but having the journal based app on my phone is much more convenient. I’m still learning how to navigate my way around this app but it allows you to track what you’re eating based on points. The amount of points you get for that week are based on your height, weight and target weight loss goal. You can also add your exercise and water intake into value diary and it will deduct or add points based on the different activities you’re completing or what you’re eating. This app allows you to indulge and eat whatever you want, but it will deduct the points. The main point here is that if you indulge in breakfast, you’ll have to be more aware of what you’re eating for the rest of the day, or you may just run out of points!
I hope that learning about some new apps will help you get back on the health and fitness wagon or motivate you to try something new and keep up the great work. Do you have any apps that you love and would like to share with the Her Campus community?
