If any of you are like me, then the current state of your closet looks like it’s just been hit by a tornado. In my dreams, I would have a walk-in closet that even Carrie Bradshaw would be jealous of and my clothes/ bags/ shoes would be colour coated from lights to darks. Sadly, this is not the case. As of right now, my closet (and wardrobe) is filled to the brim with clothes I haven’t worn in years, shoes that I didn’t even bother trying on before buying and sweaters with the tags still on. This is a system that makes getting ready a nightmare especially when I’m running late…which is always.
So, for all the ladies feeling my daily frustrations, I have finally come up with some tips and tricks on detoxing your closet!
Buy One, Give OneOver the years, I have developed a mild shopping addiction, a problem that’s resulted in not only a very sorry bank account but also a very packed closet. Luckily, I have developed a system that I try to stick to when I’m feeling a major shopping spree coming on. When I buy a new piece of clothing, or five, I like to donate one or two articles to charity. Not only will you have a home for your new purchase, but you can feel good about spending your money and you’ll know you’re clothes will be going to a better home.
Colour CodeWhile this may seem like an obvious tip, it’s one that many people don’t do. Organizing your clothing by colour will not only make it easier to find what you’re looking for, but it makes your closet way more visually appealing. After researching my article, this was the first tip I followed myself and I could not be happier with the results! I even went as far as organizing my clothes not only by colour, but by tanks, tees, sweaters and dresses as well.
Utilize Your SpaceEven if you’re living in a small space, don’t let that limit your love for clothing. Storage bins, shoe racks and above the door hooks are officially your new best friends. Tools such as these can easily be found at stores such as Walmart and Canadian Tire. Not only will the bins help with storing non-hanging items like sweaters and jeans, but it will also help clean up the bottom and top shelves of your closet. Plus, the shoe racks will allow you to put all those pretty, pretty gems on display.
Display All That GlittersIf you’re the kind of girl that loves accessories, don’t shut them away in a box. Using teacups to hold bracelets, rings and earrings is the perfect way to not only showcase all your beauties, but also add some glitter to your bedside table. I have found some beautiful teacups at Value Village. As for your necklaces, the options are endless. Hang your necklaces on the wall with a nail to create a nice wall display, or I like placing mine on my door handles throughout the house. Adds a touch of glamour to my everyday life.
And there you have it! Hopefully these tips and tricks help all of you organize your closet to best show off all the beautiful clothes we love spending our hard earned money on.
