Who here has ever stepped outside only to realize that their foundation has turned a light orange colour? For those of you who have had this occur, you are not alone! Before I investigated the matter, I would constantly be frustrated with my foundation and not understand why this unfortunate event was happening! Then, after reading an enlightening blog post one day, I figured it out. It was all because of oxidization.
Oxidization happens when the foundation colour you think is perfect for you turns orange on your face after wearing it outside for a while. Â
Oxidization is a hard concept to understand. So to break it down, it is the oils in your skin that come into contact with the pigment of the foundation and cause it to intensify, which makes it appear darker (hence the lighter orange colour). A lot of foundations can oxidize, but there are several ways to prevent it.
Try these tips:
Use a Primer! Most people think primers are not useful and can get away without purchasing one. This is false. A primer is a layer (that is either in a cream or gel form) that comes between your skin and foundation, which makes it harder for the foundation to become oxidized.
Use Moisturizer: When purchasing a moisturizer, make sure it is oil free which will ensure that there are fewer oils forming between your skin and foundation.
Use Oil Free Foundation: Make sure to purchase foundation that is oil free for the same reason that you would purchase an oil free moisturizer. The less oil involved between the skin and the foundation, the more likely your foundation will not oxidize.
By following these steps, you can ensure your foundation colour will last all day and avoid that Oompla Loompa feeling.
