Rays of Pug-Shine on a Friday Morning for uOttawa Students

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

In what can only be described as the best start to a Friday morning, I had the pleasure of meeting three cute, friendly pugs outside of the best breakfast spot in Sandy Hill, Father and Sons. Genevieve, Donnie, Matt, and their furry companions set up on our favourite patio from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today on Friday, November 18th to collect donations for their foundation, Under My Wing Pug Rescue, which helps rescue and place pugs into loving homes. This was the perfect high-traffic area to set up and spread the joy of these pugs! There was a rolling crowd of people who couldn’t resist stopping to donate and pet Max, Pierre, and
Jozy on their way to class or to get breakfast. There
was NO shortage of smiles!

These are three of the most docile and friendly pugs that I have had the pleasure of meeting. Natasha, a server at Father and Sons, snuck in a little puppy therapy during her shift. Manager, Mike, reminded us to “save the dogs!”
Pierre, in his plaid handkerchief, and Jozy, in a big blue sweater, are two alumni of the rescue program and are lucky enough to have happy homes with Donnie LeClaire and Genevieve Boucher. Genevieve Boucher is the founder and president of the foundation and was happy to be out fundraising, even on the chilly morning.

Under My Wing Pug Rescue began rescuing pugs in 2006 and has since saved 416 lucky pugs! Boucher stated that all of the money they have for the foundation is raised through fundraising (so get out there!) A lot of these adorable pugs are surrendered by their owners when they cannot care for them or are rescued from puppy mills. You could help save some of these pugs by fostering or adopting them if you are able! I mean, really, how can you resist? Matthew Don Trapp, president of IPPSSA was there to support Under My Wing. He even brought his own pug, Max (left), who is outgoing and enthusiastic about treats! Don Trapp wanted to emphasize that these dogs need to be rescued because many come from bad situations.

Under My Wing needs your help!
Pugs, as any dog, are a long-time commitment that can bring so much love to a household! To find more information about how to register to foster these cuties, clink the link. More information regarding Under My Wing can be found on the foundation’s website.

Be sure to check out their upcoming events! If you can’t adopt or foster a pug, coming out to these events and donating can be a big help!
