Single on February 14th? No Problem!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

February 14th is coming up ladies and gents. Yes, the most dreaded day of the year if you’re single… BUT it doesn’t have to be! Valentine’s day is about love; maybe your love life isn’t doing so hot right now, but love runs far deeper than just relationships. Take this day to love yourself and love everyone and everything else that brings you joy this Valentine’s day. I’m here to give you some ideas on how to spend it; so instead of being upset over the love you wish you had, give thanks for all the love you do have in your life at this very moment.

Idea number 1: Treat yourself!

Whether this be ordering your favourite meal, buying yourself chocolate and flowers, putting on your cutest clothes and taking yourself out, do something for yourself you wouldn’t normally do! Your body does so much for you so why not show it some love!

Idea number 2: Spend the day with friends

Fun fact: lots of people aren’t in relationships and will be feeling equally as lonely on Valentine’s day so instead of spending it alone, spend it with all the other single people in your life. Movies, drinks, snacks, and talking about everything and anything will definitely crush the lonely right out of you (this year will most likely be virtual but there’s tons of apps with games and movies that you and your friends can use to get together). Friends are so important in our lives so why not celebrate those friend soulmates!

Idea number 3: Spend it with your family

If you are at home with your family, use this day to show your love for your family by spending time together and doing a fun activity or simply telling each other all the things you love about one another. If you aren’t home with your family or maybe if your family is scattered around, the virtual option works just as great!

Idea number 4: Manifest love for next year ;)

Grab that rose quartz and begin manifesting a romantic partner. (Just kidding…… maybe)

Side note… every year during any holiday, I tell myself I’ll have a boyfriend by this time next year and when next year rolls around I never do and the cycle repeats itself so I just ordered my rose quartz and will try this… stay tuned for my article next Valentine’s day LOL

Idea number 5: Do an activity you enjoy

Make the day fun! Do something that is memorable with yourself like going on a hike, taking a bubble bath, having a paint night, cooking a gourmet meal or your favourite comfort meal, or binging your favourite rom-coms. The possibilities are endless so show yourself some love and make this day the best one yet of 2021!

The point is love comes from all aspects of life, not just relationships so celebrate all the love you do have from all the different angles of your life. This day is meant to show and share love for all that brings you joy! Use this day to reflect and show gratitude and more love and abundance will flow your way. Remember, the energy you put out is the energy you get back.

Happy Valentine’s day babes <3
