We all know that catchy tune Julie Andrews sings so well in The Sound of Music where she lists off things she thinks make the world a happier place. Singing about all of the things she loves is a perfect remedy for the children’s’ fear of a scary storm.
I applied this principle to my own life and thought about all of the things I use to push away my fears. For the sake of authenticity I put it to the same tune as the original song, even if my rhyming isn’t as on point.
Bell curves on midterms
And A’s on assignments
Reading break, summer break, Easter long weekend
Thoughts of diplomas and graduating
These are a few of my favourite things
Parties with roommates
And brunch the day after
Making connections to last me a lifetime
All of the memories that stick with me
These are a few of my favourite things
Blue sky in summer
And hiking on mountains
Wide-open vistas that never get boring
Basking in sunshine and not being cold
These are a few of my favourite things
When I’m lonely
When it’s a grey day
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favourite things
And then I don’t feel so bad
What are some of your favourite things?
