We all have that one show that we always turn back to no matter how many times we’ve already watched it. For me, that show is Gossip Girl. The six-season series chronicles the lives of Manhattan’s most privileged and elite through the blogs of an anonymous source known as Gossip Girl. Between the glitz and glamour of life on the Upper East Side, the characters’ relationships, and the never ending drama and scandals, I can never get enough. Here are the top eight reasons why I think that Gossip Girl is the best show ever.
- The Friendships
-
There is no friendship more iconic than that between Serena and Blair. Despite their drama and constant power struggle, at the end of the day they epitomize all the hallmarks of a best friendship. Through all of the high school nonsense, family drama, boy trouble, and tragedy, they made it out together and stronger than ever.
- The Romances
-
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing I love more than Hamptons flings, random hookups, and short-lived relationships. But, there’s no love story better than Chuck and Blair. Though it’s an emotional roller coaster, I’m there for it all. What other man would fly to Paris and back to bring Blair her favorite macarons?
- The Fashion
-
I never got sick of admiring the unreal sense of style the characters had. Between debutante ball gowns, Constance uniforms, benefit parties, and days out in the city, the fashion only further romanticized the all-too-glamorous lives of Upper East Siders. Though not all of us can deck out in designer apparel like Serena van der Woodsen, the fashion inspo is unreal.
- The Setting
-
The steps of the Met, the Empire Hotel, Central Park – these locations are at the heart of Gossip Girl’s setting. New York City is one of the greatest places in the world, and the Upper East Side encompasses every aspect of the characters’ fast-paced, glamorous lifestyles.
- The Quotes
-
I think it’s fair to say that the most iconic GG quotes come from Queen Blair:
“Three Words. Eight Letters. Say it and I’m yours.”
“Haven’t you heard? I’m the crazy bitch around here.”
“Once men have tasted caviar, it baffles me how they settle for catfish.”
“Whoever said money doesn’t buy happiness clearly didn’t know where to shop.”
“I don’t need friends. I need more champagne.”
“I’m not a stop along the way. I’m a destination.”
- The Cast
-
Have you ever seen a more attractive cast? Chace Crawford, Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick – along with their looks, their class, elegance and poise is unmatchable.
- The Morals
-
Underneath the drama and scandals, there’s so much to be learned from watching Gossip Girl. The show exemplifies morals like true friendship lasts forever, nothing is more important than family, and real love will succeed in the end. People will gossip, but don’t let it take over your life. And a little retail therapy never hurts!
- The Suspense
-
When watching GG for the first time, one of the things that kept me hooked was the uncertainty of who Gossip Girl was. The idea of it is crazy – an anonymous blogger who keeps tabs on the lives of NYC’s elite and exposes all of the drama to a mass audience? Of course I had my theories and suspicions, but my captivation never waned.
Over 10 years after the premiere of Gossip Girl, it continues to be a show that we all know and love. My biggest complaint is that six seasons just weren’t enough!
