Spring break isn’t just about traveling. It’s about being being able to get away, take a break, and come back to school feeling good. Of course, a great way to do that is to go and explore the world, but there are other options. Here is a list of five “alternative” spring break ideas, aka things you can do over break that will definitely relax you without having to worry about whether or not your luggage is going to get lost in between transport.
- Volunteer. It’s possible to have fun while doing some good. Many events offer volunteers free entrance and food in return. You can also take this time to volunteer in fields that interest you, or even just to help out with your local community. Volunteering is also a great way to meet new people!
- Spring cleaning. Take this time to go through all of your things and see what can be sold at a yard sale or donated. You could use the money from the yard sale to treat yourself to something nice. Hold your yard sale early in the morning and on the weekend though, and price your items a little above what you want, since bargaining is guaranteed to occur.
- Finish something. Finish reading that book you started at the beginning of the semester but never got around to finishing during school because let’s be real, that’s near to impossible here. Finish that art project that you weren’t able to find time to do. Finish watching that series that you started but got too busy to watch every week. Instead of taking this time to try completing a new project in a week, take this time to get older things done.
- Relax and de-stress. I know this is pointing out the obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people find this hard to do. Whether you need me-time or time with friends to catch up on life, take this time to unwind. Look for deals to a local day spa or try hot yoga. Plan a girl’s night or discover new routes for jogging. This is also a great time to simply catch up on those z’s!
- Go to free concerts and shows. I love free, and I love entertainment. So the combination of the two is simply irresistible. There are various sites that TV shows, companies and events look to in order to get a live audience. There are also a variety of fairs and festivals to satisfy everyone from the foodie to the extreme sports enthusiast. Most events are free or have a low cover charge.
