Hot Ticket: Girls of a Feather

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Penn chapter.

Last summer, the hair world was completely taken over by the feather extension trend.  Girls ages nine to twenty-nine were rocking feathers of all colors in their hair and looking incredibly cool.

If you’re like me, and are convinced your hair texture couldn’t possibly blend well with a feather, but still love the look, enter our savior freshman and Penn Environmental Group member Nikita Singh.

I spotted Nikita’s gorgeous earrings at a dinner at Banana Leaf on Friday, and couldn’t look away.

When asked if she was into the feather trend, or if this was just a fashion coincidence, Nikita responded, “Definitely! They’re so flowy and feminine!” I had to agree. Even better, wearing feathers on an earring gives you the look of an edgy feather extension without the cost or permanence.  Nikita felt the same way, saying she loved her earrings because she liked that “they’re a nice shade of red that contrasts with [her] hair…almost like I have red streaks in my hair.”

That’s exactly what those of us too timid to jump on the feather extension train have been looking for, and it’s super accessible.  Nikita got her earrings from Forever 21 for just around $6.50, and some quick online shopping I did for your convenience shows that you can get these anywhere, in any colors, for any price.  You’ve got to love a trend with diversity.

HC UPenn’s got you covered on campus trends

So, the next time you get the do-something-drastic-to-my-hair itch, or just want to jazz up your look for a fun night, take a cue from Nikita and rock a pair of feather earrings.
