If you dislike exercising, then we already have something in common.
I am the least sporty person that you would ever meet (Editor’s Note: Wanna bet?). I don’t have a regular exercise regime and even when I do exercise, I would just do the occasional half an hour jogs, or do the Blogilates workout on Youtube. I admit, many times I give up halfway and gravitate towards my couch instead.
You get the point.
So, if you told me one year ago that I would be crazily in love with this dance fitness programme called Zumba, I would stare at you in disbelief. But today, I’m hooked onto it and am a huge fan!
So here’s why you should try Zumba if you haven’t already!Â
1. It feels like a party!
Every Zumba lesson feels like a party! Think of latin, mambo, salsa, and sometimes even pop music (it really depends on your instructor) in the background, and lots of dancing! You don’t have to be good at dancing, if you’re worrying about that, because all you have to do is to follow your instructor’s moves. Also, if you’re someone who has a goldfish memory like me, don’t worry about having to memorise the dance choreograph because it’s not required. Sounds easy, huh?
Â
2. Lose calories
What is better than a workout that is FUN and helps you to LOSE CALORIES at the same time? The amount of calories you can lose from a Zumba workout really varies depending on the intensity of the workout and your own body weight, but fret not if you’re still a beginner at it because it’s better than not exercising at all, right? Honestly, I did not lose a ton of weight from doing Zumba but at least I felt less guilty whenever I reach out to snack on my daily dose of chips and chocolate bars.
Â
3. Gain confidence
While I did not see any significant body/weight changes since I started Zumba, one thing that I can positively say is that doing Zumba regularly has really helped to boost my self-esteem and confidence, and that was the main takeaway that I got from my Zumba lessons.
Dancing in public is definitely not my thing. I knew that my coordination and dancing was so bad that when I signed up for my first Zumba class, I was slightly terrified and hesitant about all the potential awkwardness that I would be putting myself into. But from my experience, I realised that everyone is too busy dancing and catching up with the different moves, that no one is going to judge you and you can be as silly as you can get! That really helped to improve on my confidence and it was amazing!
